Services for Alumni
The following services are available to all alumni who have been awarded a degree from an eligible program at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. These services are free until six months after graduation. (Individual career counseling is only available to alumni within the initial six months after graduation.)
After the six-month period, there is an annual fee of $65.00 to register. NOTE: This fee is required regardless of membership in the General Alumni Association. (Please note that the Reference File Service is a separate service and does not require registration with UCS. Visit the Reference File System section for more information about this specialized service.)
UCS Services available to alumni who do not pay the $65.00 fee include use of the Resource Room.
Services Available for Registered Alumni
During the initial six months after graduation or after paying the Alumni Registration Fee you will have full access to the following services. (Individual career counseling is only available to alumni within the initial six months after graduation.)
- Resume Referral Service
Alumni who register and place a resume in our database, will have it sent by UCS to employers who list positions with us for which they are qualified and have expressed interest. The employer will contact the alumnus/a directly if interested.
To be eligible for this service, register online through the UCS Online Registration system and enter a resume in the registration system. Be sure to check the box indicating that you wish to have your resume released to employers.
- Resume Creation Tool: Optimal Resume
If you do not have a resume yet, we recommend that you use our resume creation tool, Optimal Resume, to create an effective resume. (There is a $29.00 annual fee to create this account if you are not registered with Career Services.)
- On-Campus Interviews
Alumni are eligible to participate in on-campus interviewing with employers who agree to consider alumni. They must meet the employer's requirements (e.g. major, degree level, etc.). Employer visit information and sign-up for interviews is available through the Online Interview Sign-Up System on the UCS website.
NOTE: An alumnus/a who misses a scheduled interview without first notifying the office will be denied further on-campus interview privileges.
- Job/Internship
Listings
UCS receives over 2,000 job listings a year. Registered alumni may access these listings on-line through the UCS website.
- UCS Events
Registered alumni are welcome to attend our career fairs, career panels and workshops. (Networking Nights are only open to alumni within the first six months after graduation.)
- Online Resources
Registered alumni can search for potential employers by industry, location, and/or keyword. Career Search does not provide a list of job openings. UCS has subscribed to this valuable resource to help students and alumni research potential organizations for possible job and internship openings.
e-Leads
Registered alumni can access e-leads, a database of employment leads related to liberal arts.
Carolina
Connection
Registered alumni may utilize this on-line database to identify alumni and friends of UNC who are willing to offer career advice, job leads, relocation assistance, and/or graduate school information.UNC alumni, if you are a member of the Carolina Connection please check or update your information. If you are not a member, we invite you to join.
Additional Information
The UNC General Alumni Association also provides career services for alumni. If our services do not meet your needs, we encourage you to contact the Alumni Association or 919-962-3749 for more information. (Please note that the General Alumni Association is a completely separate department from University Career Services. Membership with their office does not provide access to our paid services.)
