My name is Whitney Haywood and I am from China Grove, North Carolina (a small town just north of Charlotte). I will be a senior at UNC this coming fall, double majoring in Psychology and Sociology. Because I plan on applying to graduate school to obtain a Master’s in Counseling Education and work in an office like Career Services at a university, becoming a Career Peer this year is extremely exciting for me in order to gain experience working with the faculty mentors and other students involved in UCS. I am most looking forward to helping plan and working events like Career Fairs and Networking Nights, as well as participating in practice interviews and resume sessions, because I really enjoy interacting with other students and these experiences will provide the opportunity to enhance my own professional skills as well.
This summer, I will be studying abroad in Italy taking an Italian language course and a painting and drawing course, while also traveling to France, Spain, and Greece for a total of six weeks. I am super excited about this great cultural experience and look forward to creating memories I will remember for the rest of my life! For the few weeks left of summer when I return, I plan on studying for the GRE in preparation for taking the exam in the early fall. I will also be working at a golf course in Charlotte and spending time with my family and friends that I don’t get to see often while at Carolina during the school year. Lastly and most importantly, I will be eagerly anticipating my journey this coming year as a Career Peer!
