There is no shortage of enrichment opportunities out there. It seems like every time you turn around, there’s a flyer for another conference, talk, trip, or chance to broaden your knowledge about a certain subject. But these days, enrichment isn’t cheap. Plane tickets, conference fees and materials costs all add up.
Don’t let that stop you – the Student Enrichment Fund aims to allow Carolina students to bring that outside learning back to campus. Any undergraduate student can fill out the application, due the first of each month. The review committee will use those answers along with a resume, a budget of expenses, and any supplemental materials to decide on the grant to award. The SEF website also provides a list of other grants available through the University and affiliated funding sources – we encourage you to check out all of the funding options available at Carolina!
SEF grants are aimed at individuals with passion and curiosity towards the subject area. We encourage creativity with these enrichment opportunities, but successful applications will have a strong academic or extracurricular foundation. While not required, it is preferred that you have exhibited past interest in the subject matter. Student organizations are able to apply with a maximum of 2 members attending the enrichment opportunity.
After returning to campus, we also require that you have a clear plan of how you will share this information and enrich your respective Carolina community. Perhaps you will make a presentation to a group that you’re involved in, or do a training for other students in your department. The possibilities for a post-presentation are endless, as are the ways that your learning could grow the knowledge here on Carolina’s campus.
Here’s the breakdown – if you’re interested in leaving the Hill to learn something elsewhere, follow these simple steps:
