Are you a budding writer of short fiction, poetry or creative non-fiction? Want to win some cash and be in a book? Carolina Creates has a writing competition going on now that you might want to check out. Click into this post for more info.
Purpose: To inspire a culture of creativity and innovation through a writing competition open to undergraduate students and UNC staff (including housekeepers, groundskeepers, and dining hall workers among others). The goal is not only to have submissions from creative writing minors and others already engaged, but from a biology major that just likes to write poetry or a housekeeper who writes fiction in his spare time.
Divisions: Each candidate may submit only one submission per division. There are three divisions: Short fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction. Each division will be broken up into two different categories: UNC undergraduate students and UNC staff. Administrators and faculty members and (with the exception of graduate students) are not eligible to participate.
Length: The maximum length per submission is 20 pages (12 point font, 1 inch margins, double spaced). Any additional pages will not be judged.
Deadline: All submissions must be emailed to carolinacreateswriters@gmail.com by 11:59pm on February 1, 2012.
Prize: Submissions will be judged by a panel of judges and the winner of each category in each division (a total of 6 winners) will have their submission published and printed into one book using lulu.com. Each winner will receive one copy of the book and be awarded a $125 cash prize. In addition, a few copies of the book will be placed in the UNC library system and will also be available for sale.
