There are twelve counselors and a graduate assistant at University Career Services. Each member of our counseling team is experienced and prepared to help all UNC students, first years through graduate students, from all majors. Some students meet with the same counselor multiple times while others meet with several counselors. Read more to learn why!
There are many reasons why a student may meet with more than one counselor. Although all of our counselors are trained to help all students each also typically has special knowledge in specific career fields. A student may choose to meet with several counselors to learn more about several different career areas.
A student may meet frequently with a counselor who may refer them to another counselor for a meeting to learn more about that counselor’s specialty or simply to get a new perspective. Counselors will often refer a student whom they know well to another counselor who the student does not know for a mock interview in order for the student to experience interviewing with someone they just met.
A student might also meet a counselor during Walk Ins who they would like to schedule a follow up appointment with. Often a student will attend a workshop or other UCS program and meet a counselor who they would like to meet with individually with to learn more about the topic or because they “clicked”.
Students are encouraged to meet with any counselor they think best meets their needs and to meet with as many counselors as they like. Feel free to make an appointment with any of us!
