It’s been just about a month since I began my time as a Tar
Heel. Since then I have come to gain a
better understanding and appreciation for what makes this place so great. I thought I’d share a few of my observations:
- Bleeding Blue: When I initially visited campus,
I was immediately struck by the sea of blue I saw all around me. The school spirit was everywhere, as nearly
every student was sporting something Carolina blue.
- A Beautiful Place to Be: The campus is
beautifully eclectic. Even in the cold,
rainy days of winter, the unique, historic buildings and brick walkways make
this campus shine.
- Friendly:
I’ve been welcomed by a great sense of southern hospitality. Honestly, I originally couldn’t figure out
why these people were so nice. Now I’ve
come to understand that that’s just how Tar Heels are! Everyone that I have met from students to
other staff members has made me feel at home here.
- All About Basketball: Coming from a school that
lives for football season, I still have to get used to the idea that basketball
is where it’s at. As I recently sat in a
local restaurant and heard the patrons get riled up about the upcoming Duke vs.
Carolina basketball game, I knew this was serious. I’m looking forward to my first adventure in
Dean E. Smith Center.
- Made of Driven Students: You are motivated
people, and it shows! I’ve come to see
that the Carolina student body is actively involved and driven to succeed. You will go far for it.
In short, I’m proud to say I am a Tar Heel. And I really do feel like one already, thanks
to the warm welcome from many of you I have already received.
Katherine, we're honored to
