Student using the Resource RoomResearching careers is an important step of career planning. It is important for you to be well-informed about a career before deciding to enter it.

After identifying a handful of occupations that appeal to you, visit the UCS Resource Room. You will find helpful, up-to-date materials on everything from investment banking to teaching in Asia! The UCS Resource Room is open Mon – Fri 8:00 am-5:00 pm. Friendly UCS staff are always available to help you find what you need.

Vault Online Career Library
Get inside information on jobs and organizations by visiting Vault Online Career Library. UCS subscribes to this valuable resource to help students find objective information that you won’t see on an organization’s website! Want to know what it’s really like working for IBM or how to get your foot in the door at MTV? It’s all on Vault!

WetFeet
UCS is pleased to offer free access to the WetFeet Career Library including the WetFeet Insider Guides. The Guides are independently-researched reports on leading companies, industries and career development topics that provide the inside information you need to gain a competitive edge in the job search process. Over 50 WetFeet Insider Guide titles are currently available and almost all are rewritten each year to reflect the latest opportunities and market conditions. Students and alumni must be registered with UCS to access this resource.

Also check out CareerTV from WetFeet. At CareerTV.com, students can view hundreds of video profiles of the world's top employers, giving them a firsthand look inside the workplace.

Carolina Connection
What better way to get reliable information about a job than to talk to someone who is actually doing it? Carolina Connection provides names of thousands of volunteers who are working professionally and want to provide career advice to UNC students.

CareerSearch
To explore organizations that hire people with your interests, use CareerSearch and ReferenceUSA to identify employers by location and industry.

e-Leads
E-leads
will provide you with profiles, names and contact information from thousands of organizations that may have potential job openings. E-leads is designed to help Liberal Arts students, but all majors may benefit from this helpful tool!

eXplore
eXplore will provide information about majors, career fields, occupations, skills, videos, tips, as well as recommended resources to expand your knowledge. You can view comprehensive occupational reports to help you learn everything you ever wanted to know about different careers.

Research: Salary Information
For many people, salary will play a role when deciding which career to pursue. UCS provides a number of resources, both online and in print, to help you find salary data for almost any occupation.

Focus
Focus is an online career assessment program designed to help you identify your interests, skills and values. You can also use Focus to research career paths generated by your Personal Report.

Password for all Focus users is "uncfocus". All current undergraduates have been automatically authorized. Graduate Students and recent alumni should make an appointment with a counselor or contact UCS if interested in using this system.

On-Campus Recruiting: Something for Every Major

On-campus recruiting provides great opportunities for students in many disciplines. While the position and/or the employer are often in the business/corporate enviroment, they are usually looking for students from "Any" major. When you are researching which careers may be open to you, be sure to review this valuable database to see what the employers who recently recruited on campus have been looking for!

Going Global Career Guides and Employer Directory
Going Global Career Guides and the Global Key Employer Directory are updated continually. This massive research tool contains more than 10,000 resources for finding employment in the US and abroad. Developed by a worldwide team of career specialists, each country covers job search resources, employment opportunities and trends, business resources and networking groups, work permits and visa regulations, cost of living and compensation information and much more. (Please note, UCS has subscribed to this resource so access is limited to currently eligible students.)
