Diversity Career Fair

Held in September, this event brings various organizations representing business, industry, non-profit, and government agencies to Carolina to meet our students. Employers look forward to this opportunity to meet students from diverse populations. Seniors can inquire about job openings and submit resumes to employer representatives. Juniors can seek out internships. First year students and sophomores can learn about career fields and how to best prepare for them. Look on the UCS website to view organizations attending the Diversity Career Fair and their position descriptions.

UCS offers eight additional fairs throughout the year as well as career panels and networking nights. Please review our complete listing of UCS events.

Special Career Concerns for Students with Disabilities

Disclosure

Some students with disabilities, particularly those with hidden disabilities, have questions about when or if they should disclose their disability to potential employers. There is no one answer to this question. In deciding whether or not to disclose, job applicants need to consider if their disability will affect their ability to do the job. A helpful article on disclosure issues is available by the Job Accommodation Network, a service of the U.S. DOL's Office of Disability Employment Policy.

For help in deciding whether or not to disclose your disability to potential employers, schedule an appointment with Ms Gist.

Accommodations

Sometimes persons with disabilities require special accommodations in order to be able to perform a job or internship. The Job Accommodation Network provides information and referrals concerning workplace accommodations.

Further information on these and other career related issues for persons with disabilities is available in the Special Populations/Disabilities (GPD) section of the UCS Resource Room. There is also a Special Populations video section in the Resource Room.
