Diversity in the Career Search:
Resources for Specific Populations
University Career Services offers a comprehensive range
of career planning and job search programs for all students, including
some specialized resources and programs for international students.
UCS encourages all students to register with our office
and to attend UCS programs and events. If you have not already done so,
please register with UCS. Please also review
our complete listing
of UCS events. We encourage you to explore the entire UCS website
for programs and services that are important for all students. Below are
some resources particularly helpful for international students.
UCS offers eight fairs throughout the year, including the
PhD Career Fair held at the
Friday Center in November. Employers participating in the PhD Fair
are listed on our website before the event. Many of these organizations
are open to hiring international students. See a complete
listing of UCS events, including career panels and networking nights.
Sponsored by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE),
the NACE International Students Virtual Career Fair is FREE and
open to international students from UNC-Chapel Hill who wish to return
to their home country for full-time or internship/co-op opportunities,
are currently pursuing one-year Optional Practical Training (OPT) and/or
long-term opportunities in the United States, and are currently pursuing
summer Curricular Practical Training (CPT) internships in the United States.
Through the fair, you'll have access to interested employers and their
full-time, internship, and co-op opportunities. The fair will run through
May 16, 2008. To participate, follow the link to the Virtual
Career Fair and click on "Candidate Registration".
The UCS Resource Room provides printed resources for researching
careers, employer information, and strategies for the job search. Many
resources are particularly helpful for international students.
This database provides profiles, names and contact information
for approximately 1500 organizations that have potential job openings.
E-leads is searchable by an option entitled “Considers international
students”. Designed to especially help Liberal Arts students, this
database can benefit all majors.
UCS has subscribed to this valuable resource to help students
research potential organizations for possible job and internship openings.
This database of more than a million employers is an excellent on-line
research tool that helps get your job search off to a fast, targeted start.
Users can search for potential employers by industry, location, and/or
keyword. Many organizations are overseas. CareerSearch does not provide
a list of job openings.
This database contains information on American companies that have filed
paperwork with the US Government to sponsor foreign professionals on
H-1B visa.

so access is limited to currently eligible students.)
Going Global Career Guides and the Global Key Employer Directory are
updated continually. This massive research tool contains more than 10,000
resources for finding employment in the US and abroad. Developed by
a worldwide team of career specialists, each country covers job search
resources, employment opportunities and trends, business resources and
networking groups, work permits and visa regulations, cost of living
