NOTE: The list of Employer Presentations is subject to frequent additions and/or deletions. Please check regularly for updated information.

Employer presentations are information sessions sponsored by the employer. The sessions provide an opportunity for you to learn more about the organization - its products, services, history, future, career opportunities, corporate culture, etc. In addition to learning more about the employer, the employer may use the time to learn more about the your background and interest in the organization. At some presentations, employers select candidates whom they wish to interview.

Student Responsibility
Employers expect students to attend presentations if the student has an interview scheduled with the organization. Most employers also expect students to attend their presentation if the student has an interest in the organization and is competing for an interview. Presence at the presentation demonstrates interest.

When arriving at the presentation it is appropriate to introduce yourself to the employer with a handshake. If invited to the presentation, you may want to thank the employer for the invitation to the event. If not an "invitation only" event, you may thank the employer for the opportunity to learn more about the organization. Express your interest in learning more about their career opportunities. Prepare two or three questions about the organization in advance in order to begin the conversation. Most employers, however, will start the conversation. Students who are brave enough to ask questions in the group presentation often favorably impress the employer.

Questions you might consider as "ice breakers:"

"For which positions will you be recruiting?"
"Which majors do you typically interview?"
"Do you have UNC alums currently working for you?"

Location, Format, and Attire

Hanes Hall (or other campus locations) - Presentations held in Hanes Hall are usually in 239B or classrooms 307 or 308. Employers may use a company video and/or Power Point presentation in addition to making an oral presentation. After presenting the information, there is usually a question and answer period. We encourage you to ask questions. Dress is usually relatively casual: sport shirt and slacks for men:; skirt and blouse for women; business suits are not usually necessary. No food is served.

Venable and Kenan Labs - Presentations for Chemistry majors may be held in Venable Hall or Kenan Labs. They are similar to those in Hanes Hall.

Carolina Inn - Presentations at the Inn are more formal and students should wear business attire. You can expect fifteen minutes to an hour of "mingling" with employers before the formal presentation begins. Often employers will bring current employees who are UNC alums to talk with students. The "social hour" provides an opportunity to learn more about the organization in a casual atmosphere by introducing yourself to the representatives and asking questions. There is usually an oral presentation which may include a media presentation. Questions are appropriate if requested by the presenter. We encourage you to ask questions in the group setting, if time permits. Food and beverages are served and vary in selection from raw vegetables and dip, fruit, chips to heavy hors d'oeuvres. Soft drinks are served and occasionally, wine and/or beer. You should not at anytime consume alcoholic beverages if you are under age. Even if you are of age, you may prefer not to drink alcoholic beverages.

Siena or Sheraton Hotel - You may expect a similar format to the Carolina Inn presentations.

Spanky's - Upstairs at Spanky's is an additional location for presentations. Because the format is somewhat casual, students may dress in slacks and sport shirt, skirt and blouse, or a pantsuit. Employers may specify type of dress for the event. There is usually a time for employers and students to mingle before the presentation. At some events, there may be no formal presentation but only interaction among employers and students. Refreshments may be served.
