Campus Recruiting & Job Listings: How to Sign Up for On-Campus Interviews

How to Sign Up | Recruiting Policies | Interview Sign-Up Schedule

We encourage you to take full advantage of campus interview opportunities. Even if you are not actually hired through an on-campus interview, the experience in itself can be valuable in preparing you for interviews you may later obtain off campus.

On-campus interviewing is only one of the several approaches you should use in your job search. We suggest that you attend a job-seeking workshop and schedule an appointment with one of our counselors to learn about other methods of job hunting.

On-campus interviews are open to students and alumni who are registered with UCS. See the Frequently Asked Questions about Registration. All students participating in On-Campus Recruiting are responsible for knowing the on-campus interviewing policies.

Two Options for On-Campus Interviews

  1. Prescreening allows the employer the opportunity to review (or screen) candidates' resumes before coming to campus. Employers select candidates to be given priority in signing-up for interviews. Students interested in an employer may submit their resume for the employer's consideration during the Resume Submission period, Friday-Thursday, 3 weeks before the interview date. Learn How to Sign Up for a Pre-Screening Interview.
  2. Some employers use the Open Sign-Up System. They either choose not to prescreen, or schedule too late to do so. There is no Resume Submission for Open Sign-Up. Qualified candidates may sign up on a first-come, first-served basis during the Open Sign-Up period. Learn How to Sign Up for an Open Interview.

Manage Your On-Campus Interviews
After you have signed up for on-campus interviews, you will need to review and keep track of those interviews.

From the main menu, click on the top menu option, "MY On-Campus Interviews”, to review the status of your OCR applications. That page will show you all the positions for which you have submitted your resume as well as the status of your submission. If you have signed up for an interview, you will be able to see that on the list.

Cancel an Interview
You may cancel an interview directly in the On-Campus Interview System until the deadline (one full business day before the interview). For example - for a Tuesday interview, you can remove yourself from the interview schedule until Sunday night. It is important to cancel as soon as you determine a conflict so that another candidate may have an opportunity to sign up.

To cancel online, find the interview in the Scheduled Interviews tab in the “MY On-Campus Interviews” section. If the interview sign-up period is still active, you will see a “Reschedule” and "Cancel" button beside your interview. Clicking on the "Cancel" button will remove you from the schedule. If you withdraw from an interview, you will not be able to sign up for that interview again. If you wish to change your interview time, be sure to click on the "Reschedule” button instead.

Once you can no longer cancel online, the cancellation of an interview MUST be done by calling UCS and speaking with someone in our office (919-962-6507). This is considered a late cancellation (be sure to review our policy on late cancellations). No voice mail or email cancellations will be accepted.

The Interview Day
Interview preparation is very important. Please review UCS Interviewing Tips or speak with a UCS counselor before your interview.

  • We recommend that both men and women wear a conservative suit to the interview.
  • Be on time. Check the sign inside the Recruiting Suite for the employer's name and room number. While most interviews will be held in our offices, some may be scheduled elsewhere on campus. Allow yourself sufficient time to walk to another location if necessary. If you are late for an interview, you may be turned in as a “no-show” by the recruiter with the corresponding penalties. Please see Recruiting Policies.
  • Knock on the door of the interview room if the recruiter does not acknowledge you with 5 minutes of your appointment time.
