Campus Recruiting & Job Listings: How to Sign
Up for a Pre-Screening Interview
How to Sign Up |
Recruiting Policies | Interview
Sign-Up Schedule
The on-campus recruiting season runs from September - April. Resume Submission
Periods for interviews are each Friday morning - Thursday night, generally
3 weeks before the interview date.
- Log
into the UCS Registration / Interview Sign-up
System during the Resume Submission Period. (Refer to the schedule
of on-campus interviewing submission dates for the specific dates to
submit your resume and to sign-up for on-campus interviews.)
- Select "search jobs & internships"
from the menu across the top of the page.
- In the "show me" drop down, select "on-campus
interview positions only"
- Click on "search"
- From the search results page, click on the "posted" column
a few times to get the most current date at the top e.g. Sept. 22, 2007.
"Posted" date is the date that you can begin submitting
your resumed for that position and the "Deadline" date
is the last day that you can submit your resume.
- Scroll down the list until you find an employer that you are interested
in and click on the position title to learn more about the job or internship.
Quite often you will be able to access the employer’s home page
directly from the description. This is a great opportunity to research
the employer – do not pass it up!!!
NOTE: If you do not meet the qualifications of
an employer, the system will not let you submit your resume on-line.
If you would still like to be considered by the employer, we suggest
you send a hard copy of your resume and a cover letter to the employer
(or email them directly) explaining why you are interested in the position
and request him/her to consider you when creating the pre-select list.
DO NOT change your user profile so you can submit for a position. Falsifying
information on your profile or resume will result in suspension of access
to UCS services and may result in further action.
If you have any questions or concerns about
this process or policy, please meet
with a UCS counselor to discuss your options.
- Follow the instructions in the "Application Status"
box on the upper right hand side of the page. Any resume you
have uploaded will be available in the drop down list for "resumes"
regardless of the approval status. (This is only the case for positions
associated with on-campus interviews.)
- Submit your resume to the employer by selecting the correct
resume (and other materials if required or allowed) and clicking on
the "Submit" button in the "Application
Status" box.
NOTE: Often employers only wish to see your resume
for pre-selection purposes. If the employer wishes to see other materials,
they will indicate that in their job description and any documents you
have already uploaded will be available in a drop down menu in the "Application
Status" box. Please pay careful attention to all information in
the job description.
- Once you have submitted your resume (and other possible
materials) for a position, you can withdraw and resubmit your materials
only during the resume submission period.
•During the resume submission period, you can update the resume
or cover letter by updating the document in your "resumes &
cover letters" section, withdrawing your application and resubmitting,
choosing the corrected document(s).
•After the resume submission period has ended, you will need to
send your updated resume directly to the recruiter.
Note: you are not obligated to interview with an employer
until you sign-up for a specific timeslot.
- Approximately a week after the last
day in the Resume Submission Period, (usually on a Friday), check the
Registration/Job Listings/On-Campus Interviewing
System to see if you have been selected for an interview. (Refer
to the schedule of on-campus interviewing
submission dates.) Log back into the system on the date your sign-up
period begins
- You will be able to sign up for an
interview by clicking on the position title from the "My
On-Campus Interviews" section. The information on the right
hand side bar will change to allow you to actually sign up if you have
been preselected or selected as an alternate (within the appropriate
sign-up periods).
Employers select students at one of two levels: pre-screened (invited)
and alternate.
- Pre-screened students have first priority and
can begin to sign-up first from Friday morning to Monday.
- Alternates can begin to sign-up next beginning
Tuesday.
- Finally, any other students who meet the employer's
basic qualifications can sign up during the Open sign-up period
- from Wednesday until one full business day before the interview
(for those employers who choose to go to Open Sign-up).
NOTE: The close date for Monday interviews
is the previous Thursday night.
If you meet the employer's qualifications, you
are eligible for Open Sign-Up even if you haven't submitted a resume
to that particular employer or you did submit a resume but weren't
selected by the employer for the interview.
NOTE: It is obvious that this system places
a great deal of emphasis on your resume. UCS strongly recommends that
you attend a Resume Writing
Workshop (schedules also available
at UCS) and have a UCS counselor review your resume if you have any
questions about putting your resume online.
