University Career Services allows students
completing a degree from UNC Chapel Hill and alumni who have received
a degree from UNC Chapel Hill to establish a Reference File.
A reference
file may be used in applying for admission to
- graduate/professional
school,
- scholarships,
- other academic programs,
- or positions in education, college teaching,
library science, social work, health sciences,
public history, public administration, and city and regional
planning.
Continuing
Education/Evening College students may not establish a reference
file unless they have received a degree from UNC-Chapel Hill.
The Reference File Service provides UNC-CH
students and alumni a central location for their evaluations, the ability
to send evaluations to employers, graduate schools or scholarships/academic
programs in an attractive form, and a confidentiality option.
A complete
Reference File consists of:

on our website or at the UCS Reception
Desk)
You may have up to six letters of reference in your file. Each evaluation
may be no longer than three pages. NOTE: A Reference File only contains
your letters of reference. Transcripts are not included in your file.

This form must be completed, signed and returned. No references will
be sent by UCS without the signed authorization included on the form.
If you have already established your Reference File with UCS, you may
enter your name and Reference ID (last 4 digits of your social security
number) below to:
- Check which References you have on file with UCS,
or
- View record of References sent, or
- Issue a request to send your References
- Check balance and/or pay Balance via Credit Card
