Your Job search correspondence can have a tremendous impact on your chances for being selected for an internship or job.

For example, an effective resume and cover letter forms a positive first impression on employers, while a poor resume or cover letter can eliminate the candidate from further consideration. Sending a thank you letter following an interview can often make the difference in being selected for a position.

UCS Counselor with a studentUCS recommends that you write a rough draft of your resume (and possibly other job search correspondence) and have one of the UCS counselors critique it for you. Counselors are available to critique job search correspondence during walk-in hours (Monday-Friday, 10:30 am - 3:30 pm during the regular school year, no Fridays in December, or Monday-Friday, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm during the summer) or by appointment. UCS also offers workshops on resume writing in the Fall and Spring semesters.

If you do not have a resume yet, we recommend that you use our resume creation tool, Optimal Resume, to create an effective resume!
