NARRATION: Career Management means identifying and articulating one's skills, strengths, knowledge, and experiences relevant to your goals and identifying areas for professional growth. This also means understanding processes to explore and pursue career options and self-advocating for opportunities in the workplace. Having a genuine interest in the field you choose and devoting yourself to learning about it and navigating it effectively creates a strong foundation for a successful career.
INTERVIEW 1: I think for me, you know, when it comes to working in higher education and also coming straight from undergraduate to going to a Master’s program in the fall, for me it’s really knowing kind of really being able to say, “I know that I don’t have this, this, and this,” and being able to say “Okay, so I can do this, this, and this to get there.” I think it really comes down to being able to just know what you need to get where you are and being able to be realistic about what you need to do to get to where you want to be.
INTERVIEW 2: Career Services and all the resources that Career Services offers has helped me to identify how I want my career to play out and I think that I actually want to go into counseling so it’s been really nice to shadow counselors and talk to people in the office. I’ve been able to take skills assessments and strengths assessments to identify the strengths and skills I do have that could ahead and help me get to where I want to go in my career and then I’ve also been able to take some assessments that have helped me identify areas I can work on. So Career Services really offers a lot of opportunity and resources for us and I hope that helps people to recognize them.
