Parents

The mission of University Career Services is to provide progressive services and resources to help students choose and prepare for their careers, learn job search skills and find employment.

University Career Services advises students and provide resources on the types of planning and preparation required to help students meet their career goals. This includes internships, job seeking, labor market resources, individual career counseling, workshops, and employer contacts via career fairs, panels, computer technology, and presentations.

The role of UCS is to act as an educational agency, rather than an employment agency. We give students the tools, resources, and opportunities to make sound career decisions, plan for their career, and find internships and jobs. Ultimately the student is responsible for preparing for his or her career goals and for finding the position.

Effective Career Planning

Effective career planning is a process that takes time, and we encourage students to stay engaged with their career development throughout their time at Carolina. We provide students with suggestions for a step-by-step, year-by-year approach to help you meet your career goals.

Tips for Parents

As you send your son or daughter off to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, please know that their ultimate success and career satisfaction depend on a careful, systematic exploration of who they are, what they want to do and how they will get there. The time for them to do this exploration is now. Working together, we can help them achieve their career dreams.
