Carolina Performing Arts and UNC Career Center have built a longstanding partnership thanks to a shared commitment to student success —and the convenience of being neighbors in Memorial Hall and Hanes Hall. Every year, CPA hires UNC students of all majors for a variety of roles, from supporting productions behind the scenes to creating welcoming experiences in box office and front of house roles. They also offer professional development workshops and networking opportunities for students interested in the arts.
Who is Carolina Performing Arts
Carolina Performing Arts (CPA) has been hosting world-class artists in music, dance, and theater at UNC-Chapel Hill since its founding in 2005. CPA’s mission is to create shared experiences through art that spark curiosity and connect the campus community.
Renowned artists including the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, Audra McDonald, and Alvin Ailey Dance Dance Theatre have all graced the stage at Memorial Hall, along with regional artists like Appalachian folk musicians Nora Brown and Stephanie Cole and plays such as The Team: Reconstructing and Lost Lear.
Why Carolina Performing Arts Recruits UNC Students
CPA believes student employees should leave with more than a paycheck. Through hands-on experience, they help to put on incredible performances and learn skills that go far beyond the theater. Working alongside professional staff and artists, they develop communication, teamwork, problem-solving, customer service, leadership, and event operation— experiences that employers in every industry value.
Perspective from a student employee
“The most beautiful thing about the student staff at CPA is how diverse it is and how everyone has found a part of themselves in the arts regardless of their major or chosen career. Through that experience, I gained the tools and confidence that will continue to sustain me throughout the next stage of my journey.“
— Melodi Carty, Assistant House Manager
