Schedule an Appointment

Eligible students may schedule career coaching appointments with University Career Services (UCS) using Handshake. Career coaching is conducted in Hanes Hall or virtually, Monday-Friday For assistance with class and major selection, visit UNC Advising College of Arts & Sciences. Additionally, if you plan to pursue a health-care related career such as dentist or physical therapist, and seek guidance on course pre-requisites and activities, visit the Health Professions Advising website for resources and to schedule an appointment.

How to Schedule an Appointment

UCS offers 30 and 45-minute coaching appointments both in-person and virtually. Our coaching appointments include, career exploration, LinkedIn profiles, pre-graduate and pre-law school exploration and planning, mock interviews, major exploration, resume, curriculum vitae (CV) and cover letter critiques, and personal statement reviews. resume & Cover Letter Drop Box

Don't have time for a resume or cover letter appointment but would like it critiqued? Upload your resume in Handshake for feedback. This is not an appointment but rather a document review. Only resumes and cover letters will be reviewed. All other documents will require a 30 or 45-minute career coaching appointment with UCS. No-Show Policy

Lack of awareness of this policy will not be an excuse for violating it and being held accountable to the consequences.

University Career Services (UCS) understands that the unexpected happens and honors when those instances occur. However, it is your responsibility to schedule an appointment on the day and time that fits your schedule. In the instance of the unexpected, it is also your responsibility to log into Handshake and cancel your appointment. When a student fails to cancel an appointment, it does two things: 1) Reduces the number of students seen by UCS Career Coaches and negatively impacts the full utilization of planned career appointments, and 2) Prevents other students from scheduling an appointment at that time.

Failure to cancel your appointment is considered a “No-Show” and will be noted in our records.

  • If you have one “No-Show” appointment for failure to cancel, then you will be notified by a UCS staff member to provide you with this policy as a reminder.
  • If you have two “No-Show” appointments in any semester for failure to cancel, then your access to Handshake will be suspended for no less than two (2) months and until you speak with the Associate Director for Career Education by contacting ucs@unc.edu. Suspension from Handshake means that you will not be allowed to use the platform in any capacity, not limited to scheduling appointments, researching and applying for jobs/internships, and participating in career events like on-campus interviews, career fairs and information sessions with employers.
  • If you have more than two “No-Show” appointments in any semester, then your access to Handshake will be suspended for no less than three (3) months and until you speak with the Associate Director for Career Education by contacting ucs@unc.edu. Suspension from Handshake means that you will not be allowed to use the platform in any capacity, not limited to scheduling appointments, researching and applying for jobs/internships, and participating in career events like on-campus interviews, career fairs and information sessions with employers.

This policy is in place to ensure students uphold their commitments to being professional and respectful of our teams’ time, and to facilitate opportunities for fellow Tar Heels to access career education support as well.

Note: To receive UCS services, students must be receiving a degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and must not be in the MBA, MAC, MPH@UNC, Law, Medical or Dental programs, which are served by separate career offices available in their programs. UCS serves underclassmen, seniors, graduate students and alumni (up to 6 months post-graduation).
