Eligible students may schedule career coaching appointments with the UNC Career Center using Handshake. Career coaching is conducted in Hanes Hall or virtually, Monday-Friday. For major-specific advising, the UNC Career Hub has information on School- or Department-based career offices.
The UNC Career Center offers 30 and 45-minute coaching appointments both in-person and virtually. Our coaching appointments include, career exploration, LinkedIn profiles, pre-graduate and pre-law school exploration and planning, mock interviews, major exploration, resume, curriculum vitae (CV) and cover letter critiques, and personal statement reviews.
We also offer Drop-In career coaching appointments at Hanes Hall on a first-come-first-served basis Mon-Thurs 2-4 pm and Fri 11 am-12pm.
How to Schedule an Appointment
- Click Schedule Appointment and log-in with your ONYEN
- Click on UNC Career Center in the top right corner
- Select appointments
- Schedule a new appointment
- Select either Virtual/Distance Appointments or In-Person Appointments (choose a category)
- Select 30- or 45-minute Virtual with Handshake or In Hanes Hall (choose an appointment type)
- Pick any available day and time and complete the pre-appointment survey
- Complete the Appointment Request Details (only select Hanes Hall, 2nd floor if you have an in-person appointment. Otherwise leave the location blank)
- Do not select drop-in
- For the appointment medium, select In-Person Drop Ins for in-person appointments only or Virtual on Handshake for virtual appointments only
- Complete the Help Requested field and pre-coaching appointment survey
- You will receive an email from Handshake confirming your appointment, as well as communication from your career coach.

No-Show Policy
We want to make sure all students have access to Career Center resources and appointments. To keep things fair and respectful of everyone’s time, please review our policy on missed appointments:
What Counts as a No Show?
- Missing a scheduled appointment without canceling in advance.
- Arriving more than 10 minutes late without prior notice.
How to Avoid a No Show
- Cancel or reschedule your appointment in Handshake at least 24 hours in advance.
- If something urgent comes up, please call or email us before your scheduled time.
Consequences of a No Show
- First Missed Appointment: You’ll receive a reminder of our policy.
- Second Missed Appointment: Your access to schedule future appointments may be temporarily suspended until you contact our office.
- Repeated Misses: Continued no-shows may result in longer restrictions on scheduling.
Why This Matters
Every missed appointment takes away a slot that another student could have used. Canceling in advance helps your peers and keeps our services running smoothly.
